This is a replica (framed art print) of 18th centry antique painting by Italian artist Giuseppe Castiglione. Original piece is collected by National Palace Museum in Taiwan.

Painting Story:
In 1755, the Empire fought a tough war against bandits in northwest of China. Ayusi lead only 24 cavalry to attack enemy's camp at night and succeed. This remarkable attack had triggered the total collapse of bandit's morale, result in 6500 surrenders to the Chinese forces. Ayusi and his hero performance had well rewarded by the King and got recorded down by a royal painter Giuseppe Castiglione with multiple paintings.

Historical Information:
This painting clearly illustrating battle equipment of 18th century Chinese cavalry. We can see both bow and firearm are used on horseback in addition with a lance. The warrior is also in worn with a chainmail armor, riding the horse in rush to the fighting spot. His posture may not be the one for launching the lance, it could have been a common way of carrying a lance when riding in speed.
